On Wednesday 5 March, at 12.30 pm, the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Economics and Business (Building 690) of the University of Barcelona will host the presentation of the documentary Dones en lluita, a 3Cat series directed by journalist Txell Feixas. Among the participants in the event are Manel Alías, as presenter; and Joan Guàrdia, rector of the UB; Rosa Romà, president of 3Cat, and Jaume Duch, Catalan minister for European Union and External Actions.

During the session, Txell Feixas will explain the creation process of this omnichannel project, which includes six chapters and podcasts and will premiere on 8 March on the 3Cat platform and on 9 March on TV3. The series follows six women from Afghanistan, Guatemala, Lebanon, El Salvador, Senegal and Catalonia who fight for fundamental rights in adverse contexts. With a rigorous journalistic approach and social criticism, Dones en lluita aims to raise awareness and generate critical consciousness about these realities.

Three of the women of the documentary will participate in the event and share their experiences of resistance and social transformation. Zuhal Sherzad, only 21 years old, runs a network of clandestine schools for 700 girls in Afghanistan, a country where the Taliban regime has banned female education. Ana Rutilia, a Mayan Q'eqchi lawyer from Guatemala, has led a historic complaint against a hydroelectric complex that has devastated her community. Samanta Fandos, a single mother from Catalonia, turned a real estate scam into the driving force behind her activism in defence of the right to housing, taking a vulture fund to court to deny her a social rent.

The presentation will be followed by a ten-minute teaser and the first episode of the series (there are six in total, one episode per character), which focuses on the story of one of the women, from Guatemala. The session will close with an open question time with the participation of Txell Feixas and some of the women of the series, present at the event.

This project, promoted by 3Cat with the support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation and the collaboration of Mediapro, reaffirms the public service’s commitment to quality journalism and the visibility of social struggles on a global level.

Txell Feixas (Mediona, 1979) has been a correspondent in the Middle East for the Catalan Corporation of Audiovisual Media and has covered conflicts such as the war against the Islamic State in Iraq and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Her journalistic career, marked by her commitment to human rights and the gender perspective, is also reflected in the book Dones valentes (Ara Llibres, 2020).
