Former students of the UB-affiliated school won five awards at the 17th edition of the Catalan film awards.
The 17th edition of the Gaudí Awards was held on 18 January at the Barcelona International Convention Centre. Five former students of the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC), an affiliated centre of the University of Barcelona, received awards in several categories.
Celia Giraldo received the award for Best New Director for her debut film Un lugar común. In the category of screenwriting, Eduard Sola won the award for Best Original Screenplay for Casa en flames, while Mar Coll received the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Salve Maria. The award for Best Short Film went to El príncep, directed by Àlex Sardà. In addition, Laia Ateca received the award for Best Art Direction for her work in Polvo serán.

Moreover, in this edition, 22 ESCAC former students were nominated in various categories, reaffirming the presence and influence of the talented people trained at this institution in the Catalan film industry.
In last year’s edition (2024), some ESCAC former students shone too, with twenty-one nominations and seven awards. These achievements consolidate ESCAC as a benchmark in film training and its fundamental role in the development of new talent in the audiovisual sector.
