Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Awards Ceremony

On 25 March, at 5.00 pm, the University of Barcelona’s Aula Magna at the Historic Building will host the fourth edition of the Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Awards for the best doctoral thesis written in Catalan. The event will be presided over by the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, who will also present the awards, which are named in memory of Antoni M. Badia i Margarit, who was Rector of the University and a prominent linguist. The event will begin with a lecture on the writer and politician Víctor Balaguer, given by Teresa-M. Sala, lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, “Renéixer com l’au fènix. Balaguer en català”.

The Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Awards aim to promote the writing of theses in Catalan, while recognizing research that considers sustainability, the gender perspective and the dissemination of knowledge. This year, the following people have won the award in the different categories:
- Best thesis in Catalan in the field of humanities and social sciences: Al límit de la pell hi ha la metàfora: un estudi de les poetes catalanes del segle XXI, by Meritxell Matas Revilla.
- Best thesis in Catalan in the field of experimental sciences and health sciences: L’exposició a virus presents en l'ambient: descripció del viroma i avaluació del risc, by Marta Itarte Sorolla.
- Best thesis in Catalan on gender equality and other sustainable development goals (SDGs): Obrint les portes de casa: Experiències i resistències de joves LGBT+ del Bages a l’ espai domèstic, by Júlia Pascual Bordas.
- Best action in Catalan to disseminate the doctoral thesis: Temps, espai i intertextualitat a les novel·les de Joan Perucho, by Pere Torra i Pla.
The jury also agreed to award diplomas to the finalists’ theses:
- Second prize in the category of humanities and social sciences: De sobte tot s’anà enfosquint: una aproximació a l’opacitat tecnològica dels processos intermedis, by Marc Anglès Cacha.
- Second prize in the category of experimental sciences and health sciences: Noves estratègies analítiques per a la determinació de contaminants orgànics en ocells, by Bernat Oró Nolla.
