The University of Barcelona, the most sought-after first-choice university

The University of Barcelona is once again the most popular first-choice university in Catalonia. It has been chosen by 17,640 new students, out of a total of 57,401 who are applying to the Catalan university system this year. It also ranks first in the number of total applications (11,956) and first-choice applications (8,021). The UB’s offering represents 25% of the total number of places in the entire Catalan university system, but the number of first-choice applications alone exceeds 30%.

The UB’s offering represents 25% of the total number of places in the entire Catalan university system, but the number of first-choice applications alone exceeds 30%.
The UB is also the university with the highest cut-off mark of all the universities offering 40 or more places, with 12.946 for the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine at the Campus Clínic. In terms of degrees with fewer than 40 places on offer, the cut-off mark for the double degree in Physics and Mathematics is second (13.19), behind the same degree at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (13.43).
The three most popular bachelor’s degree courses for new students are at the UB. The Medicine degree at the Campus Clínic, with 1,591 first-choice applications, ranks first, followed by Business Administration and Management, with 1,200, and Psychology, with 1,092. The degree in Dentistry is the fifth most popular, with 809 first-choice applications; Law is eighth, with 763, and Nursing at the Bellvitge Campus is ninth, with 756.
