The Rector has received the drafting committee’s proposed text, drawn up from over a thousand amendments and comments.
The committee has submitted the draft of the new Statute of the University of Barcelona to the Rector. This is a text compiled from the analysis of the amendments and comments received during the third phase (“Every Word Matters”), with the support of the Participa UB programme. The response from the UB community has been very significant: a total of 482 amendments and 595 comments were submitted. The drafting committee, in an exercise of transparency and active listening, individually assessed all the amendments, accepting 53.5% of them either fully or partially. The accepted proposals were incorporated either directly or by adapting their wording to the overall text. The justification for not accepting the amendments is provided through the Participa UB programme.
This analysis process has led to substantial improvements in the wording, including the creation of a new article referring to section coordination. Various formulations have also been refined to improve clarity and regulatory effectiveness and to address some aspects that were previously unclear. The proposal is presented as a clear and concise text, in line with the reflections gathered in the first phase of the process (“Where we are and where we want to go”), with a desire to adapt to new demands from the environment, while also remaining firm in safeguarding the values and principles that define the University of Barcelona.
With the submission of the text, the committee completes its assigned task. The next step is the analysis of the text by the management team, legal and linguistic services, and its submission to the Senate during the month of September. This will begin the fifth and final phase of the process, which leads to an extraordinary session of the University Senate, in which the Office of the Rector will present the proposed text along with the explanatory report. A period will then open for the presentation of amendments by the Senate members, which will conclude with an extraordinary session for debate and voting on the amendments, followed by the final vote on the text. In accordance with Article 182.3 of the current Statute, the approval of the new Statute requires a favourable vote of an absolute majority of the Senate members.
All updated information on the process of drafting the new Statute is available on the UB Statute website.
