The University of Barcelona has just published its 2024–2025 Report, which sets out the institution’s key figures for the last academic year and highlights the most significant activities carried out in the areas of teaching, research, innovation and knowledge transfer, internationalization and social commitment.

The annual report reflects the University of Barcelona’s commitment to transparency and accountability towards the university community and society. In the foreword, the rector, Joan Guàrdia, highlights one of the year’s milestones: “In 2025, the University Senate approved the new Statute, a text resulting from a deeply participatory process, which lays the foundations for the transformation of the UB in line with the challenges of the 21st century, and prepares it to face the future with the utmost confidence.”

The reference to the Statute is included in Chapter I, which also discusses the tools available to the university to ensure institutional integrity and harmonious coexistence. This chapter also presents the results of the 2022–2024 Governance Plan, which were outlined at the University Senate meeting, where the 2025–2029 Governance Plan, structured around seven areas, was also presented.

In this new edition of the annual report, the Sustainable Development Goals linked to the various themes have been retained at the start of each chapter. Following the structure of previous years, the document begins with the chapter “The University of Barcelona”, which sets out the key figures characterizing the institution and outlines the features that define its identity. The publication is then divided into four thematic sections: “A university engaged with society”, covering initiatives related to transparency, ethics, good governance, sustainability, institutional, cultural and charitable activities, social commitment and entrepreneurship; “A university at the forefront of education”, which includes information on the academic offering, student support and innovation, as well as teaching evaluation and improvement; “A university at the vanguard of research”, which analyses research activity, internationalization, the recruitment of talent and resources, scientific output, the transfer of technology, knowledge and innovation, and work on doctoral programmes and the dissemination of scientific culture; and “An international university”, on the institution’s internationalization strategy and the mobility of the various university communities.

The publication was produced by the Technical Bureau at the Rector’s Office and published by UB Editions. A print run of 170 copies of the Catalan version has been produced; these will be distributed within the university and sent to various organizations and institutions linked to higher education in Catalonia. As was the case last year, the Spanish and English editions, which are expected to be available shortly, will be published in digital format only. The electronic version will be sent to various national and international institutions and organizations.

As usual, alongside this new edition of the annual report, the “Reports and Memoranda” section of the Technical Bureau at the Rector’s Office website contains, among other documents, the statistical data on which it is based, as well as previous editions of the publication.
