The presentation of the new online campus included the participation of Anna Caula, secretary-general for Sports and Physical Activity of the Catalan Government; Joan Guàrdia, rector of the University of Barcelona; Pere Lavega, head of the INEFC Hub project, and Eduard Inglés, director of the National Institute for Physical Education of Catalonia (INEFC).
The new center aims to support knowledge internationalization and cross-sectionality as a response to the current challenges in university training. INEFC Hub is a project promoted by INEFC, with the support from the Secretary-General of Sports and Physical Activity (SGEAF) and the University of Barcelona (UB) through its centre of continuous training, IL3.
Resulting from this institutional collaboration, the first edition of four INEFCH Hub online masters will take place this year. The offering includes four programs: Permanent Training on Gender Equality in Sports and Physical Education; Permanent Training on Complex Systems and Sports; Permanent Training on Sports Technology, and Permanent Training on Sports Tourism Innovation Management. All the information regarding the masters is available on the INEFCF Hub website.
The offer will then expand with new programs, with the aim of activating them in English and other languages. Therefore, INEFC wants to reach any part of the world with the training offer. According to Pere Lavega, “INEFC Hub will allow us to weave a cross-border bridge and become a worldwide antenna for sports sciences”.
Eduard Inglés, who chaired the presentation, says that “INEFC is consolidated as the university of sports, with the creation of this fourth online training center, which is added to those in Barcelona, Lleida and the Pyrenees, willing to go international through online training and the creation of a network in the field of sports sciences”.
Then, Joan Guàrdia highlighted that the creation of this virtual campus responds to the evolution the University has undergone over the last years, since it offers alternative models to the classic definition of the modern university. The rector noted that “INEFC Hub is a fundamental spot in the history of knowledge, not only in the field of sports but also in the modern and integrative ways of doing things in a 21st century university”.
Lavega, head of the internationalization project and INEFC Hub, highlighted the cross-sectionality of the training program: “We start the project with these four programs, which aim to be the mirror of the diversity that characterizes the world of sports”. Therefore, these are programs aimed at people with degrees in physical activity and sport sciences who want to train throughout their lives, but also at those trained in other fields, such as engineering, business, administration, IT, tourism, etc.
Finally, Anna Caula noted that the INEFC Hub will bring dynamism, projection and innovation to the country's sports policy. "We are bringing together the expertise and talent of the sports university, INEFC, with the mark of the Catalan sports DNA", she said about a project that "will allow us to export knowledge and learn from other cultures, which will enrich the social, training and academic tissue [of Catalonia]".
