Mercè Puig, professor at the University of Barcelona, has been appointed secretary general of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia (CIC).
Mercè Puig Rodríguez-Escalona is a professor of Latin. In the field of research, she has been a member of the Institute for Research on Medieval Cultures (IRCVM) since its creation in 2008 and has been a member of several consolidated research groups and research teams in competitive projects since 1992. She is the author of many publications on misogynist poetry in the Middle Ages, body language in ancient Rome and medieval Latin lexicography. She is currently working on the project of the Spanish National Research Counil (CSIC) and the UB which develops the Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis Cataloniae, a dictionary of Latin and Catalan terms found in the documentation of early medieval Catalonia.
She has taught courses in the Degree in Classics and the master’s degree in Medieval Cultures, which she coordinated from 2007 to 2017. She has supervised undergraduate and master’s degree final projects and several doctoral theses.
In terms of management, she has held numerous academic positions at the UB, including Head of Studies at the Faculty of Philology from 2004 to 2008, Vice-Dean for Academic Planning at the same faculty from 2008 to 2016 and Vice-Rector for Students and Language Policy at the UB from 2017 to 2020.
The CIC is an instrument of coordination and management in key issues for the entire university system and for the Government of Catalonia. It is responsible for coordinating the university system, advising the government and guiding and organizing university access.
