Conference on internationalization and the future of higher education with representatives from the European academic community

On Wednesday, 22 April, at 3.30 p.m the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona will host two round-table discussion on the internationalization and future of higher education. Among participants will be representatives of the academic sphere in Europe and other geographical regions. The event, Universities Without Borders, is one of the activities marking the 575th anniversary of the UB and is part of this year’s Erasmus Staff Week at the University.

On Wednesday, 22 April, at 3.30 p.m the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona will host two round-table discussion on the internationalization and future of higher education. Among participants will be representatives of the academic sphere in Europe and other geographical regions. The event, Universities Without Borders, is one of the activities marking the 575th anniversary of the UB and is part of this year’s Erasmus Staff Week at the University.

The first session will take place at 3.45 p.m., brought by Professor Kurt Deketelaere, secretary-general of the League of European Research Universities (LERU); Josep Maria Garrell, president of the European University Association (EUA); Cristina Sarmento, member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and Ainhoa Serrano, member of the Coordinating Body of Student Representatives of Public Universities (CREUP). The second session will be brought by Sara Docampo, president of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN Spain); Àngels Fitó, rector of Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and president of the Executive Committee of the Interuniversity Development Centre (CINDA); José Pintor, general manager at Casa Àsia, and Marcello Scalisi, director of the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED). The session will be closed by Joan Guàrdia, rector of the UB.      

The meeting will be held as part of the UB Erasmus Staff Week, which will take place from 20 to 24 April and will involve around 30
technical, management, and administrative and service staff members from European universities and other regions of the world. It is a training activity during which they will visit several faculties, attend talks and take part in different working groups, in an initiative organized by the Office of Mobility and International Programmes in coordination with the Office of the Vice-Rector for Internationalization Policy. While the full programme of activities is aimed at those registered for the Erasmus Staff Week, the “Universities Without Borders” meeting is specifically open to the general public.
