Next Monday, 24 February, the University of Barcelona will host, at the Historic Building’s Aula Magna, the presentation of the Tratado general de trabajo social, política social y servicios sociales. This collective work, coordinated by Professor Jorge Gracés (University of Valencia) and published by Tirant lo Blanc, includes the collaboration of lecturers from the UB’s Faculty of Education. The book, structured in three volumes, addresses the foundations of social work, social services and social policy from an academic and professional perspective.
Tratado general de trabajo social, política social y servicios sociales is presented as an essential tool for professionals, researchers and social work students, with the aim of becoming an academic and professional model in this field. The book brings together contributions from leading experts in social services and public policy, including several professors from the UB, who have contributed to analysing the current challenges facing the discipline from a theoretical and applied perspective.
Among the attendants in the presentation will be the dean of the Faculty of Education, Silvia Burset, and the director of the School of Social Work, Cándido Palacín. Conchita Peña, dean of the Official College of Social Work of Catalonia, will also attend, as well as the general director of the Tirant lo Blanch publishing house, Salvador Vives.
The treatise addresses key issues in contemporary social work, from applied research and the importance of doctoral theses to innovation in social services. Among the topics analysed are the approach to loneliness in the elderly, intervention in oncology and the role of social work in international adoptions. New methodologies and theoretical references in the discipline are also explored, and the need to strengthen citizen participation in the design and improvement of social services is assessed. It also presents the main theoretical and methodological currents that have defined the profession.
The book emerges as a new academic and professional reference model and aims to strengthen research and practice of social work as a driver of social transformation.
