The UB restates its leadership in Spain in the CWUR ranking and it climbs positions in the European rankings

The University of Barcelona reinforces its leadership in the new edition of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The results for 2023, which were published today, show that, for yet another year, the UB is the most outstanding university in Spain. On a European scale, it has improved one position compared to last year and is now in 47th place, and on a global scale it is the 134th out of the 20,000 universities worldwide analyzed in the ranking, reaching the 67th position regarding research results and performance.

The University of Barcelona reinforces its leadership in the new edition of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The results for 2023, which were published today, show that, for yet another year, the UB is the most outstanding university in Spain. On a European scale, it has improved one position compared to last year and is now in 47th place, and on a global scale it is the 134th out of the 20,000 universities worldwide analyzed in the ranking, reaching the 67th position regarding research results and performance.

This ranking uses indicators related to both teaching and research, around four fundamental aspects: education, measured by the number of former students who are awardees of international awards; alumniʼs employability, the number of former students who are now holding high positions in international big businesses; faculty, the quality of the teaching and research staff, measured according the number of staff awardees of international awards, and the results and performance of research.

The Spanish universities to follow the UB in the CWUR ranking are the Autonomous University of Barcelona (190th position), the Complutense University of Madrid (249), the University of Valencia (285), and the Autonomous University of Madrid (291). At a global scale, the first positions of the ranking are held by Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford.
