Aula Carles Riba Conference: “Verse and classical aesthetics”

Catalan verse is nourished by the classical example in several ways. Firstly, we have the adaptations of classical metres, made with different approaches, from Maragall and Costa i Llobera to the present day, including Carles Riba's elegies and the translations. In a broader sense, classical forms have left their mark on Catalan poetry of all periods, as has the use of certain traditional metrical solutions to evoke Greek and Latin verses or stanzas. The Aula Carles Riba conference explores this field, in which the classical tradition, the musicality of verse and the symbolic dimension of literary forms meet.
