Professor Joan Mateo, from the Department of Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education of the UB will give the conference “El model de lʼescola catalana” in the fifth debate of #DebatsUB: Catalunya i Espanya, to be held on Thursday December 13 at 6.30 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Historical Building. Mateo will analyse the Catalan school within the frame of the relations between Catalonia and Spain and in particular, how the Spanish rule has often been harmful to the Catalan education model.

Professor Joan Mateo, from the Department of Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education of the UB will give the conference “El model de lʼescola catalana” in the fifth debate of #DebatsUB: Catalunya i Espanya, to be held on Thursday December 13 at 6.30 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Historical Building. Mateo will analyse the Catalan school within the frame of the relations between Catalonia and Spain and in particular, how the Spanish rule has often been harmful to the Catalan education model.

A roundtable will follow, with the lecturer Antoni Tort, from the University of Vic, lecturer Juli Palou Sangrà, from the University of Barcelona; Pilar Gargallo Otero, president of FMRPC; Belén Tascón i Alonso, president of FAPAC; and the lecturer Igone Azpiroz, from Lizardi High School in Zarautz. The event will be streamed on the UB youtube channel and Facebook, and will count on the participation of the vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Social Action, Maite Vilalta.

Several conferences have already taken place within the frame of #DebatsUB: the first one, with the participation of the philosopher Daniel Innerarity, was given by Professor Jordi Casassas; the second, with Professor Antoni Castells, from the UB and former minister of Economy and Finance at Generalitat de Catalunya; the third, by Antoni Bayona, lecturer of Administrative Law at UPF and former attorney at the Catalan Parliament; and the fourth conference, by Carme Junyent, lecturer from the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics of the UB. There will be one more debate after this Tursdayʼs session:

• "La política: lʼespai de resolució dels conflictes", conference by the emerits professor of Political and Administrtive Science at the UAB, Josep Maria Vallès. January 17, 2019, in the Historical Building.

Each session consists on a conference given by a distinguished academician, followed by a roundtable on the topic of the conference. Debates and participation will be published in different volumes of a new collection of Editions and Publications of the UB: Debats UB.
