'Inclusive education, positive mental health'

With the motto “Inclusive education, positive mental health”, the World Mental Health Day takes place on October 10. Some faculties of the University of Barcelona prepared several activities to treat this topic from different perspectives.

With the motto “Inclusive education, positive mental health”, the World Mental Health Day takes place on October 10. Some faculties of the University of Barcelona prepared several activities to treat this topic from different perspectives.
World Mental Health Day is a festive day with an emphasis on community care and market inclusion. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental disorders, after substance addiction, are the main cause for disability. Global estimations point out a 4.4 % of global population suffers from depressive disorder and a 3.6 % suffers from anxiety.
“Mental health from the othersʼ perspective”
On October 10, the Faculty of Psychology will present the conference “Salut mental des de la perspectiva de lʼaltre”, by Doctor Francisco Eiroa, Marie Sklodowska-Curie researcher at the UB, at 12 noon in Sala de Graus. With this conference, the Faculty of Psychology wants to go over the demands for improvements in the mental health system and production of knowledge, from the perspective of those used to see mental health from a social perspective instead of the field of science and clinical experience.
Entity Fair in Bellvitge Campus
The students from the Nursing School of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences organize an entity fair on October 10 in the entrance of the Bellvitge Health Sciences Campus, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The aim of this fair is to show the work by people with mental disorders in a participative and festive environment with the collaboration of several entities linked to the Mental Health Network in Catalonia.
Mental health and migrant people
On October 10, the Medicine Campus - Hospital Clinic will hold the session “World Mental Health Day: letʼs talk about immigrantsʼ and refugeesʼ mental health”, organized by the teaching staff of the course on Mental Health Nursing in the Clinic Campus. The activity will start with a talk on the cooperation experiences among professionals of mental health in Greek refugee camps. It will be given by Mireia Graell, mental health nurse at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and Sílvia Mondon, expert on psychiatry. Afterwards, Mercedes Espinal, mental health nurse in the Program of mental health care for immigrant people in Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (SATMI), will give the talk “Transcultural psychiatry: SATMI”.
3rd Session on Food, Nutrition, Gastronomy and Mental Health The Food and Nutrition
Torribera Campus has prepared for its third year in a row, as part of the World Mental Health Day, the Session on Food, Nutrition, Gastronomy and Mental Health. From 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., the room les Voltes in the building of la Masia, will hold several talks on healthy food, pharmacology and psychotherapy, among others, apart from a workshop on mindful eating.
