A committed university member

Miquel Caminal graduated in Economics at the UB and received the extraordinary doctorate prize for his thesis "Joan Comorera i la revolució democràtica" in 1985. He was Professor of Political Science and Administration at the UB, and held various government and management positions. He was the Vice-Rector for Students (1986-1988) with Josep Maria Bricall’s team.

An expert in contemporary political theory and, in particular, in political Catalanism, nationalism and federalism, Caminal contributed to the institutionalization of political science in Catalonia. He carried out his academic activity at the UB, mainly at the faculties of Law and Economics, with a brief period at Rovira i Virgili University. His most outstanding works include El federalismo pluralista. Del federalismo nacional al federalismo plurinacional (Paidós, 2002) and Nacionalisme i partits nacionals a Catalunya (Empúries, 1998). He has co-authored several manuals on political science and has written articles in the media.

Always politically committed, he chaired the Advisory Committee for the Reform of Self-Government of the Department of Institutional Relations and Participation of the Government of Catalonia (2004-2006). Also, from 2008 to 2011, he was the director of the Democratic Memorial of the Government of Catalonia, the first institution in Spain dedicated to recovering, commemorating and promoting democratic memory.
