Winners of the UB Debate League and the Secondary and Upper Secondary Education Debate League
Olivia Wilk-Berini and Martiño Vega, students of the Law degree, have been the winners of the new edition of the University of Barcelona Debate League. Regarding the UB Secondary and Upper Secondary Education Debate League, the first prize was given to the team made up by the students of the school Claret Barcelona and the other finalist was the team from the high school Margarida Xirgu.
Olivia Wilk-Berini and Martiño Vega, students of the Law degree, have been the winners of the new edition of the University of Barcelona Debate League. In this tournament, 24 teams and a total of 120 students from different schools took part, as well as one teacher per team as captain. The winning team will represent the UB in the Secondary Education Debate League of the Vives University Network from 22 to 24 March at the University of Valencia. The topic of the debate will be: "Is it necessary to regulate social networks to fight disinformation? The aim of the competition is to improve the participants' communication skills and to promote the acquisition of transversal competences, such as safety, teamwork, creativity, documentation, analysis, discourse construction, planning and decision-making.
From 27 to 29 March, the UB will also take part in the Xarxa Vives University Debate League, which will also be held at the University of Valencia. This is a dialectic competition in which, for a week, several teams of university students debate on a controversial and topical issue. This year the topic will be tourism sustainability. The aim is to encourage the use of the word and to promote skills such as teamwork, argumentation, staging and the relationship with students from other universities.
