UB Alma Mater
UB Alma Mater, the first intra-university e-sports competition organized by a Catalan university, aims to promote healthy lifestyle habits, break down stereotypes associated with video games, promote parity in a traditionally male-dominated sector and reinforce the presence of the Catalan language. Eight teams made up of students from different UB faculties took part in the competition, which was successfully followed: every Thursday afternoon, the Penyafort-Montserrat theatre was filled with students cheering on their teams, and the UB’s new Twitch channel registered an average of 1,500 views per game.
The initiative was linked to a research project led by the UB’s Faculty of Psychology researcher Albert Sánchez Niubò. Throughout the competition, participants brought a device that monitored biometric data to study their performance and stress levels, both inside and outside the video game. The project aims to promote healthy habits among e-sport players and to highlight the importance of physical and mental well-being in this community.
UB Alma Mater is an initiative created by the University of Barcelona and the start-up company Omashu.
