Coimbra Group commits to act against climate change

Durham University (United Kingdom) and the Coimbra Group have recently signed the Durham Declaration on Climate Change and Sustainability. The initiative closed during the Climate Symposium that took place last week in Durham. In this agreement, the 39 universities that make up the network — including the University of Barcelona — are committed to addressing the challenge of climate emergency and sustainability in all areas of academic life.
Universities are institutions with enormous transformative power and are therefore well positioned to contribute effectively to the fight against climate change. The signed declaration, which is articulated in seven guiding principles, aims to stimulate collaboration between all members of the network, strengthen research and teaching, and make Europe’s higher education institutions a benchmark in sustainability.

Les universitats són institucions amb un poder transformador enorme; per això, estan ben posicionades per contribuir de manera efectiva a lluitar contra el canvi climàtic. La declaració signada, que s’articula en set principis rectors, vol estimular la col·laboració entre tots els membres de la xarxa, reforçar la recerca i la docència, i convertir les institucions d’educació superior d’Europa en referents en sostenibilitat.
