Presentation of the giant dedicated to Ukrainian writer Lesya Ukrainka

The University of Barcelona’s Ferran Soldevila garden at the Historic Building hosted the presentation of a giant statue dedicated to Lesya Ukrainka, a prominent Ukrainian playwright and feminist, a symbol of the struggle for the cultural identity of this country.
Mariana Sorochuk, manager of the Ukrainian Centre in Barcelona, is the author and curator of the new giant project. She has supported the Ukrainian association Djerelo (Barcelona), with the financial support of the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Government of Catalonia, as part of the project Creation of an internal community network for Ukrainian refugees in Catalonia. The Ukrainian Institute and the Barcelona City Council have also supported the initiative, thus offering continuity to the proposal to create Ukrainian giants in Catalonia.
Under the cooperation between universities, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, on the initiative of the vice-rector of the international university, Ksenia Smirnova, gave the UB Lesya Ukrainka’s The Song of the Forest. It will be translated into Spanish and Catalan in the near future.
