On 15 and 16 May, the University of Barcelona is taking part in the kick-off meeting of the Future4Alliances project, one of the main objectives of which is to imagine what the future of European university alliances might be after the first few years of the initiative. The project is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme and involves nine partners, including the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and 23 associated entities, the UB being one of them.

Future4Alliances, coordinated by Campus France, is supported by ministries, regional authorities, national agencies for the Erasmus+ programme and higher education institutions from 13 countries. The UB also represents the CHARM-EU alliance in the project, which includes nine universities from different countries among its partners. In addition to exploring how to ensure the sustainability of the initiative in terms of funding, Future4Alliances also explores how to boost joint educational programmes and the international dimension of European university partnerships. This initiative also seeks to explore synergies with the FOREU4All community of practice, in which CHARM-EU also actively participates. The vice-rector for Internationalization Policy, Raúl Ramos, who participated in the conference, stressed that “the project facilitates the necessary space for dialogue between ministries, quality agencies and universities to overcome the barriers that limit the transformative impact that alliances should have on the European university system”.

The nine Future4Alliances partners are Campus France (France), the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Austria), the Ministry of Education and Science (Bulgaria), the Finnish National Agency for Education (Finland), the Ministry of University and Research (Italy), the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (Norway), Foundation Tempus (Serbia), the National Agency for European Community Programmes and International Mobility Programmes (Slovenia), and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Spain).
