The Historical Building of the University of Barcelona has hosted the graduation of the sixty students who build up the first promotion of the CHARM-EU master's degree. They are the first students to graduate from a master's programme designed by a European University Alliance. The students of this promotion have been the first to live this innovative learning experience, with transdisciplinarity, sustainability, mobility and inclusiveness as central principles.

The recent CHARM-EU graduates, who came to the UB from different parts of Europe, have received training that enables them to work in areas such as sustainability, social innovation, sustainable entrepreneurship, project management or research, among others. The master's degree in Global Challenges for Sustainability aligns learning outcomes with the needs of industry, business and civil society, and promotes a broad set of skills suitable for the labour market. This programme is supported by external stakeholders and it enables students to connect with the business and social sector, build a strong network and be prepared to work with companies and institutions around the world.

The ceremony had speeches by the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia; the rector of the Eötvös Loránd University, László Borhy; Markus González, undersecretary for Universities in Spain; Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, head of the unit in charge of higher education policies and programmes in the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission; Catherine Comiskey, academic director of the CHARM-EU master's programme, and Marjanneke Vijge, academic coordinator of CHARM-EU in Utrecht.

During a final blended mobility programme in Barcelona between the 30 January and 3 February, the graduating students took part in various learning activities such as workshops, a fieldtrip and two panel discussions with external stakeholders on the topics of working in sustainability and taking actions on global challenges. In the final part of this programme, the students presented, in a session at the University, the Capstone challenges, which they had been working on with their peers, mentors and external stakeholders in the third and final phase of the program, both inside and outside Europe.
