Via Làctia, Desubica’t! and Cardemcat are the three proposals that were best valued by the jury of the 1st Maria Sabater Videopodcast Competition out of a total of fifteen that were submitted. The commission, made up of communication experts from the UB, considered criteria such as originality, the transversality of the subject, the ability to communicate and the representation of diversity.

Via Làctia is the proposal presented by Clara García, Aurèlia Torné and Carla Rubio. They present a videopodcast with talk-show elements to encourage interest in culture in all its aspects and student participation. Each episode will analyse a topic, such as the role of radio in the dissemination of culture, innovation in music or the relationship between gastronomy and culture. They will do so from the point of view of both entertainment and reflection.

Desubica’t!, presented by Gloria Loayza, Nicolás Díaz, Marta Urquiz, Carlos Herguido and Pau Benito, calls for action, to step out of the comfort zone and address the issues that concern young people. With a casual and relaxed tone, the videopodcast aims to entertain and amuse the audience, and to become a meeting point for the university community. It includes, among other things, a section that invites listeners to choose the best faculty at the UB based on the atmosphere in the bar, the style of the classrooms and the common areas.

Cardemcat is the proposal by Laura Boj, Roger Miras and Xènia Hernàndez. The programme aims to promote and disseminate sexual terminology in Catalan. Talking about sex in plain, correct Catalan. Dialectology, popular sayings, but also sexual diversity, sexuality at all ages, and paraphilias and sex toys are some of the topics that will be covered in the episodes of the videopodcast.

A jury of established podcasters will decide the winner

In September, the three finalists will present their projects to a jury made up of professionals from the sector, who will decide which videopodcast is the winner of the competition. The cash prize is 3,000 euros for the selected proposal, 1,000 euros for the second runner-up and 500 euros for the third runner-up.

The winning project of the 1st Maria Sabater Competition will be published on the UB’s Ivoox and Spotify channels in audio format, and on the UB’s YouTube channel in video format. The team of students responsible will be in charge of the production, script and voice-over of the programme during the academic year 2024-2025. They will also have technical support and material for the production of the episodes, as well as the dissemination of the programme through the UB’s communication channels.

The competition is named after Maria Sabater, who was the first announcer on Radio Barcelona and a pioneer in this field in Spain. The winning entry will be premiered on 14 November 2024, the 100th anniversary of the first radio broadcast in Catalonia.
