Pere Llopart’s research focuses on the transformation of vineyard waste, specifically ferments, to obtain biochar. This biochar is used in wastewater treatment to eliminate micropollutants such as pesticides. The thesis supervisors are Bernardí Bayarri and Carme Sans. Pere Llopart explains that he particularly enjoys dissemination. Regarding the competition, he says that the most difficult part was “overcoming my nerves and giving the presentation in English, which is not my language”.

The Three Minute Thesis competition challenges PhD students to explain their research in English, in no more than three minutes, to a non-specialist audience. In this way, it supports the doctoral students’ discoveries and encourages them to communicate their research and explain its relevance to the community. All the information is available on the UB Divulga website.
