Exhibition: "Elements of Physics"

Exhibition:
07/11/24 - 31/12/24
Culture : Divulgation

"Elements of Physics" is the new permanent exhibition of the Faculty of Physics' collection of scientific instruments. The exhibition, which presents a selection of scientific instruments dating from 1850 to 1920, allows visitors to explore key disciplines in physics such as mechanics, liquids and gases, heat and optics. Admission is free and open to all. Each object in the exhibition has a QR code that allows access to further information through the UB's Virtual Museum. This new exhibition joins existing exhibitions on the history of electromagnetism and meteorology.

"Elements of Physics" is divided into four thematic areas:

  • Mechanics and acoustics: visitors can observe instruments such as a double pendulum or a Newton's tube. Other apparatus explores wave motions and Lisajous curves.
  • Liquids and gases: In this section you can see devices such as the Heró fountain, which uses water to propel a jet, or apparatus demonstrating the hydrostatic paradox and Pascal's principle.
  • Heat: This section includes a differential Leslie thermometer and a linear dilatometer, which allow the study of phenomena related to temperature and thermal conductivity.
  • Optics: This section includes objects such as a reflection polariscope, a theodolite with telescope, a spectrogonimeter and apparatus for studying the laws of reflection and refraction of light, as well as an arc projector and a Fresnel lens.
