From today until 25 October, the University of Barcelona is hosting the exhibition “45 years of El Periódico”, which looks back over the life of the paper edition of the newspaper. The exhibition, which has already been in the gardens of the Palau Robert, now arrives at the UB’s Historic Building to show the front pages that the newspaper would like to publish in the coming years.

Agustí Alcoberro, Vice-Rector for Cultural Activities and Cultural Heritage at the UB, expressed the institution’s joy at hosting an exhibition that highlights a “historic event”, the forty-five years of El Periódico, “the first that decided to publish an edition in Catalan”. “There is no better place to reflect on the challenges posed by this exhibition than the University”, said Alcoberro.

For her part, Ana Domènech, director of marketing and branding at El Periódico, defended the newspaper as an essential witness to Catalan society over the last four and a half decades. “The commitment to rigorous journalism and public service has always been in our DNA. These front pages represent the desire to look ahead and to continue doing journalism that is committed to citizens”, concluded Domènech.

Among the events related to the exhibition, a round table on the future of communication and journalism in a field marked by the irruption of artificial intelligence is scheduled for 21 October.

The exhibition consists of forty-five 29.5 × 37.5 cm panels that express the media’s desire to work for the progress of people without compromising the health and well-being of the planet. Among the subjects dealt with are the desire to have a society free of sexism, inequality and epidemics, the recovery of a passion for reading and the triumph of sustainability, among others.
