In the aftermath of Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky’s now-infamous Oval Office spat, transatlantic relations are plummeting. In the days following the meeting, Trump has cut off all military aid to Ukraine, leaving Europe facing the prospect of similar treatment in the near future.
European nations, including the United Kingdom, have shown unity in the immediate aftermath, with a hastily convened summit in the UK and strong financial commitments to both defend Ukraine and ‘rearm’ Europe.

Citizens broadly support this shift towards militarization. In a recent Eurobarometer survey, 79% of respondents supported greater defence cooperation at the European Union level, and 65% agreed that defence spending should be increased.
