The University of Barcelona (UB), through the Scientific and Technological Centres (CCiTUB), has recently joined the European Research Infrastructure Consortium Euro-BioImaging (ERIC), a reference project in Europe for biological and biomedical imaging, recognised by the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI).
The aim of this agreement is to promote joint research in the field of imaging technologies in biological and biomedical sciences. The CCiTUB will coordinate a new node specialising in live cell and in vivo microscopy, Barcelona Live and Intravital-Advanced Light Microscopy Node (BLivIN), together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine Barcelona (IRB Barcelona) and the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

The agreement has been signed jointly with other Spanish institutions such as the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Carlos III Health Institute, the Biofisika Bizkaia Fundazioa, the Achucarro Basque Center For Neuroscience Fundazioa, the Fundación Centro de Regulación Genómica (CRG) , the State Agency of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Foundation for Research at the University and Technical Hospital La Fe de la Comunidad Valenciana — Health Research Institute La Fe —, the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine Foundation (IRB Barcelona)

New at the CCiTUB

Under the Euro-BioImaging project, the UB has reinforced the Advanced Optical Microscopy unit of the Science and Technology Centres (CCiTUB) at the Clínic Campus with state-of-the-art equipment. The acquisitions have been made possible thanks to Next Generation funding. The new equipment includes an Opera Phenix high-content hybridisation (HCA) robot, designed to screen cell cultures and organoids, and a multiphoton microscope equipped with dual lasers for in vivo microscopy. These tools will help to take a major step forward in biomedical research.
