The Paranymph Hall of the Historic Building at the University of Barcelona hosted, yesterday, 28 October, the 125th anniversary gala of Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol, in a symbolic return to the place where the club was born. Among the attendees were the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, and institutional representatives, members of the university community, club directors and well-known faces from the world of sports and culture.
Organized jointly by RCD Espanyol, Televisió de Catalunya and the UB, the gala recalled the origins of the club and its trajectory over more than a century of history. Journalists Ernest Riveras and Elia Danon hosted an evening full of emotion, performances and awards, broadcasted live on TV3, 3Cat and Espanyol Media.
RCD Espanyol was founded in 1900, under the name of Sociedad Española de Foot-ball, by three students from the UB — Ángel Rodríguez, Octavi Aballí and Lluís Roca — who wanted to create a club made up of young Catalans and Spaniards. The initiative marked the birth of one of the city’s most representative sporting entities.
At the same time, the Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol Private Foundation and the UB inaugurated the exhibition “125 anys d’amor indestructible” (125 years of unbreakable love), installed in the main vestibule of the Historic Building. Open to the public from Monday 27 to Friday 31 October, it brings together materials and historical elements linked to the club, as well as content connecting the 125 years of RCD Espanyol’s history with its Barcelona roots and its link with the UB.
