Lecturers from the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona are teaching a course aimed at active teaching staff and students on the bachelor’s degree in Teacher in Primary Education, which aims to explain basic concepts in financial education to children, from the value of money and saving to drawing up a family budget. This is the first initiative carried out by the UB as a collaborating member of the Financial Education Plan 2022-2025, promoted by the National Securities Market Commission, the Bank of Spain and the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

The course provides tools to ask children questions about what money is, taxes, or even how much can be saved with a given budget, among many other issues. The second edition of this training activity is promoted by the Faculty of Economics and Business together with the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the ICO Foundation. The course will take place during the months of July, August and September, and pre-registration can be done through this link.

This initiative is part of various actions to promote financial education that have been carried out for more than ten years at the Faculty of Economics and Business, a work that is now being put into practice in the adherence to the Financial Education Plan. Professors Yolanda Blasco and Manuela Bosch state that “the acquisition of financial skills allows us to be informed in order to make responsible decisions in monetary matters. Being aware of the need to understand the economic issues that surround us helps us to plan our present and our future, and to enjoy good financial health”. In this sense, the fact of actively participating in this financial education process is understood “as a transfer and dissemination of knowledge, in line with one of the UB’s fundamental objectives”.
