Editions and Publications of the University of Barcelona presents new publications in the Madrid Book Fair

From May 31 to June 16, the 78th Madrid Book Fair will take place in Parque del Retiro. Editions and Publications of the UB will participate with its own stand, with Estrella Montolioʼs Tomar la palabra, and Mercè Bernardoʼs El éxito internacional de la cocina catalana, among others.

From May 31 to June 16, the 78th Madrid Book Fair will take place in Parque del Retiro. Editions and Publications of the UB will participate with its own stand, with Estrella Montolioʼs Tomar la palabra, and Mercè Bernardoʼs El éxito internacional de la cocina catalana, among others.
This year, Editions and Publications of the UB will be present at the stand number 21 in the Fair. It will present seven new publications and will have a total of two-hundred titles, mainly in Spanish, although there will be some in Catalan and in English. Also, they will bring the complete collections of Barcino. Monographica Orientalia, from the Institute of Ancient Near East Studies (IPOA), from the University of Barcelona, with eleven volumes, which is specialized on Assyriology, Sumerology, Egyptology, and other ancient cultures of the Near East; and Pedagogies UB, directed by Enric Prats, with twelve published titles, with an innovative view on topics related to education science and pedagogy.
The books to be presented are: Tomar la palabra, by Estrella Montolío, a collection of thoughts on the use of language in communication from a gender and political perspective, in social networks, institutional communication and daily life; El éxito internacional de la cocina catalana, by Mercè Bernardo, Raúl Escalante and Anna Arbussà, which analyses the relationship between the cook and the training, collaboration atmospheres and mutual respect -the ingredients that placed the Catalan cuisine among the top ones; Bibliotecas de escritores, by Ana Rodríguez Fischer and M. José Rodríguez Mosquera (eds.), which gathers the chronicals of how, where and when some authors discovered literature and vocation to write, and shows how the creation of an own library has built one of the core elements in their lives and a motor for artistic creativity; El embrión inconformista, by David Bueno and Jordi García-Fernández, to show evo-devo (evolution and development), a scientific discipline which analyses how evolutionary mechanisms make organisms sharing a same ancestor be clearly different from each other; La insurrección de la vulnerabilidad, by Asun Pié, analysing social, economic and psychological conditions that feed rejection in human vulnerability, to find other paths that allow the construction of a kind society; Aspectos del periodismo de Camilo José Cela, by Adolfo Sotelo Vázquez, which gathers the writerʼs collaborations in Spanish press from the forties until the sixties as a fundamental part of his career as a writer, and Josep Puig i Cadafalch y la búsqueda de la modernidad, by Víctor Gómez, a book that shows the evolution of the wholeness of his work and is the most notable collection of the architectʼs projects, illustrated with a thousand photographs that show his buildings and their details.
Last yearʼs edition of this fair reached 8-million euro sales and received more than 2.2 million visits, which makes it the most important fair in Spain, and one of the most relevant in Europe and Spanish-speaking countries. This year, the invited country is the Dominican Republic, aiming to give visibility the field of books in the Latin American field.
