Science, monologues and posters at the 3rd Doctoral Research and Dissemination Conference

Promoting the dissemination of doctoral research and encouraging interaction between researchers in training from different disciplines is the aim of the University of Barcelona’s Doctoral Research and Dissemination Conference, which this year has reached its third edition. The meeting, which took place on Friday 9 May in the Historic Building, has established itself as a space in which scientific communication is the main character. It has a dynamic and accessible format to give visibility to research and promote the communication skills of doctoral students.

The meeting, which took place on Friday 9 May in the Historic Building, has established itself as a space in which scientific communication is the main character. It has a dynamic and accessible format to give visibility to research and promote the communication skills of doctoral students.
With a total of 275 registered participants, 123 posters and 75 monologues inspired by the research experience of the participants, the 3rd Doctoral Research and Dissemination Conference has awarded prizes to Yana Amelina (prize for the poster photography competition), Paloma Aguirre (best meme on the doctorate), Daianna Sierra (best academic poster) and Marta Lucía Domínguez Pazos (Victoriano Pineda Prize for best monologue).
The session began with an institutional welcome by the Rector, Joan Guàrdia, the Vice-Rector for Doctoral Studies, Trainee Research Staff, Talent Attraction and Dissemination, Maria Feliu, and the President of the Council of Doctoral Students’ Representatives, Diego Vicente. Professor Gemma Marfany gave the opening lecture — “Per què és tan important la divulgació científica?” (Why is science communication so important?)—, in which she highlighted the essential role of science communication in today’s society.
In this new edition, participants were able to share their research activity with the rest of the university community in an informative and dynamic way, with scientific monologues — four minutes to present each research project —, scientific posters, a new scientific meme competition and the photography contest, which produced the official poster for the event.
The conference is an initiative of the Office of the Vice-Rector’s for Doctoral Studies, Trainee Research Staff, Talent Attraction and Dissemination and the UB’s Council of Doctoral Student Representatives.
