The General Council of the Vives University Network, meeting at the Abadia de Montserrat on 14 March, made public the Montserrat Declaration, thus reaffirming the commitment to the values of quality, inclusion and sustainability as fundamental pillars of higher education. This declaration calls for the adoption of policies that guarantee the protection and promotion of the Catalan language, ensuring and reinforcing its presence in the public and university spheres.
In a context of growing linguistic diversity, through the document approved by the member rectors, the institution strengthens this commitment and is committed to a multilingual policy that guarantees the protection and promotion of its language as a common heritage and as a key element for the quality of education and the professionalization of students, while at the same time calling for its official status in the European Union. The declaration highlights the role of the university not only as a generator of knowledge, but also as an agent of social and cultural transformation, and marks a step forward in the construction of a more open and plural higher education, aligned with the global challenges of the 21st century.
