Today, the Ramón y Cajal lecture room of the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona hosted the presentation of Cursa de la Mercè 2025 (Mercè race), presided over by the Sports Councilor of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé. In this edition, the UB participates for the first time providing logistical support, under the activities of the 575th anniversary of the institution.
The councillor remarked that this year the record number of registrations has been broken and the female participation has increased. “We changed something in the route, with a very fast circuit that favours the participating athletes”, he pointed out. Escudé also emphasised that “Barcelona is a city that is committed to the model of sport and health.”
The race, which has consolidated its position as one of the city’s leading sporting events, maintains its inclusive nature with categories for people with disabilities and adapted circuits. During the event, the new official T-shirt, made of technical fabric and specially designed for this year’s edition, was also presented.
The organizers have confirmed that the 14,500 bibs available have sold out: 13,500 for the 10km race and 1,000 for the family mile. The most relevant change this year is the new route, due to the construction works at Plaça d’Espanya, starting in Carrer d’Aragó and finishing in Plaça de Catalunya. The race will feature the main winners of the last editions, such as Artur Bossy, Alejandro Rodríguez and Ismail Atriki, as well as the participation of the former international runner Reyes Estévez.
With this collaboration, the UB reinforces its commitment to the city and the promotion of sporting activity.
