The trade unions have called a general strike on Wednesday, 15 October, against the genocide in Palestine. On the one hand, CGT, IAC, Intersindical-CSC and COS are calling a 24-hour strike; meanwhile, CCOO and UGT are calling partial strikes of two hours per shift (from 2.00 a.m. to 4.00 a.m., from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and from 5.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.).
Regarding this call, the University of Barcelona once again expresses its rejection of the inhumane situation in the Palestinian territories . Monday’s announcement of a ceasefire supervised by the international community is an essential step, but it is not enough to guarantee full respect for the human rights and freedoms of the Palestinian people. The ceasefire must be respected and consolidated. The release of all hostages and the return of the bodies of those killed is also imperative.

In line with this position, which the UB has always held, the Faculty 18 initiative is more relevant than ever and becomes a fundamental tool for academic and institutional cooperation with the Palestinian people.

The UB states the following in relation to the strikes called by the trade unions:

1. In order to respect the UB community’s right to strike, all faculties will suspend evaluation-related activities on Wednesday.

2. SocUB, the intranet and the student portal will immediately inform users, of any situation that, for security reasons, may affect the activity in any university space.

Finally, we call for the utmost respect for the facilities and heritage of the University of Barcelona, which, as a public institution, is financed by public resources and, therefore, by the taxpayers of Catalonia. It should be remembered that the cost of any repairs is also borne by all citizens.
Follow all the information on SocUB, the intranet and the student portal.
