The University of Barcelona has been one of the entities that have participated in the renewal of the Citizen Commitment for a more sustainable Barcelona for the next ten years, which is committed to being a responsible city with the current challenges and giving firm responses to the climate emergency.
Teresa Sauras Yera, Vice-Rector for Sustainability and Climate Action, attended the ceremony to renew the Commitment, which took place this Tuesday, 9 July, in the gardens of the Palauet Albéniz. The new 2024-2034 agreement has been drafted collaboratively with the full participation of 868 organizations and individuals, who together with the UB form the Sustainable Barcelona + Network.
The document that has now been presented was unanimously approved by Barcelona City Council’s Citizens’ Council for Sustainability on 7 May. Its main points are aimed at the decarbonization of the city: to make the Catalan capital a smart and climate-neutral municipality by 2030, with an 80% reduction in greenhouse gases.
