The committee that will draw up a first draft of the new Statute of the University of Barcelona has been constituted today, and has held its first working session.
This committee is made up of seven people. The Rector has appointed three of them: Elena Lauroba, Oriol Pujol and Mercè Adell. The other four, on the other hand, were voted on by the Senate in the session of 18 June: Fermín Huarte (permanent teaching and research staff); Aleix Gavaldà (non-permanent teaching and research staff); Vicenç Cervelló (Technical, Management, and Administrative and Service Staff, PTGAS), and Yaiza Moreno (student body). The committee has the support of the Secretary General’s Office and, specifically, of Lluís Medir, Deputy Secretary General.
With the constitution of the committee, the second phase of the process of drafting a new Statute begins, called “Laying the foundations”. The committee must draft an initial outline based on the main ideas and core elements identified in the first phase, “From and to”, in various discussion groups, meetings and interviews with representatives of the UB community’s different bodies and groups.
Specifically, seven opinion groups were formed, made up of PTGAS and PDI members, deans and students. There has also been a direct dialogue with several members of the UB community: the governing teams of the seventeen faculties, the Doctoral Student Representative Council, the governing teams of the research institutes, representatives of the UB Group, the Board of Trustees, the Athenaeum, the Feminist Assembly and former rectors, among others.
This first draft is expected to be available in autumn, to be presented to the university community, who will be asked to get involved (third phase: “Every word matters”).
