The University of Barcelona and Hospital de Barcelona have presented the agreement they have signed to carry out joint teaching and training activities. Among the attendants were Joan Guàrdia, rector of the UB; M. Àngels Font, president of SCIAS Hospital de Barcelona, and Miquel Gómez, medical director of the centre.

As part of this collaboration, around twenty students from the degrees in Medicine, Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Nursing carry out teaching activities at the Hospital de Barcelona. While preserving the patient's privacy at all times, students can train, among other areas, in radiology examinations; in medicine related to the digestive system; in the intensive care unit and the coronary unit; in outpatient surgery, general surgery, traumatology and vascular surgery, as well as in digestive and respiratory endoscopy and in hospital pharmacy. This is a quality training programme aimed at UB undergraduate students.

For the Hospital de Barcelona, the collaboration with a prestigious university is an important part of its comprehensive teaching programme. It is also a commitment to the skills and qualification of future healthcare professionals, who are offered practical experience in a real clinical environment, under the supervision of experienced professionals. It also promotes research and innovation at the hospital, putting it at the forefront of knowledge, medical practice and clinical excellence.

Hospital de Barcelona, the first co-operative hospital owned by its users, and the medical insuring company Assistència Sanitària form the integral health co-operative movement, a particular model of self-management based on the equality of users and doctors in decision-making and management bodies. Currently, the organisation has 190,000 policyholders and more than 4,000 doctors at its disposal.
