The UB has won three titles and reached six finals in the Catalan University Championships in Team Sports

The University of Barcelona delivered a standout performance in the final phase of the 2026 Catalan University Championships (CCU26) in team sports, held on 12 March in Vic, finishing with three titles and three runner-up finishes. In these finals, a hundred students — 82 women and 22 men — represented the UB, making it the institution with the highest participation and also the one that won the most titles. The teams were accompanied throughout the day by the Vice-Rector for Students and University Life, Marta Ferrer.

One of the most notable aspects of UB’s participation was that all the women’s teams qualified for the finals reached in their respective competitions, reflecting the high level of women’s sport at the institution.
The UB was crowned Catalan university champion in three disciplines. The first title came in women’s basketball, with a 58-48 victory over the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The women’s futsal championship was also secured with an 8-2 win over Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) 8-2. The third title went to the men’s futsal team, which beat the University of Lleida (UdL) 5-3 in a closely contested final.
In addition to these three titles, the UB secured three runner-up finishes, all in women’s competitions. In women’s 11-a-side football, the team played a closely fought final against the University of Girona (UdG), which was decided on penalties after a goalless draw. In women’s volleyball, the final against the UPC ended 3-2. Finally, the women’s handball team also reached the championship final, where they lost to UAB by 29-25. Meanwhile, the Catalan individual sports competitions have been taking place since October. So far, more than 500 UB students have taken part in one of the 20 disciplines organized by Esport Català Universitari (ECU), earning a provisional total of over 70 medals, around 30 of them gold. These Catalan university champions will also take part in the Spanish University Championships, alongside the teams that have qualified in the team competitions, which will be held in Andalusia during April and May.
