Yesterday, 30 September, the Historic Building’s Paranymph Hall hosted the welcome ceremony for the international mobility students who will study at the University of Barcelona this academic year. The event, presided over by the Rector, Joan Guàrdia, included the presentation “A marvellous path through life and the city”, given by Montserrat Pareja, professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business. Pareja highlighted several aspects of Barcelona as a diverse and innovative city.

The attendees experienced the excitement of the castells (human towers) thanks to a performance in the Paranymph Hall by Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària. The ceremony began and ended with musical performances: Erxart Casas, winner of last year’s edition of the Sona UB competition — which promotes musical talent among the university community — opened the session, and the Icelandic singer-songwriter Halldor Mar, known for the Televisió de Catalunya programme Katalonski, closed it.
After the event, the students participated in a networking activity organized by the Erasmus Student Network in the Ferran Soldevila garden.
Most of the students now arriving at the UB will study during the first semester, although many will also stay for the entire academic year. At the beginning of 2026, students will join the University for the second semester only, meaning that, over the course of the academic year, the UB will receive more than 2,000 exchange students. This figure reflects the UB’s commitment to promoting international mobility, with mobility agreements with over a thousand universities around the world.
Welcome sessions have also been organized in the faculties, with the aim of providing students with relevant information about their stay, registration, enrolment and other aspects of university life.
