New targets for oncological diseases, innovative therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative processes, and educational innovation in pharmacological training are some of the subjects to be covered in the 37th Congress of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology (SEF), to be held from the 18th to 21st of June in Barcelona. The deadline for previous registration is next Friday, 10th of March.

This pharmacological summit is organized by a committee led by Francisco Ciruela, professor from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona and Head of the Neuropharmacology and Pain Research Group at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), Elisabet Vila, from the Institute of Neurosciences of the UAB, and Josep Eladi Baños, from the Faculty of Biology of the UPF.

According to Professor Francisco Ciruela, member of the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona, “the congress will become a new platform where worldwide pharmacology experts will exhibit and debate on the newest progresses in different fields of pharmacology research, a distinguished interdisciplinary science”. This year, the prestigious British Pharmacological Society (BPS) -founded in 1931 in Oxford- will be the invited scientific entity in the congress, which will take place at the Hotel Alimara in Barcelona.

The new edition of the SEF congress -a space focusing its interest on the youngest talents- wants to give more importance to the new researchers and offer them the possibility of contacting different international prestigious experts. The scientific program includes plenary sessions, symposiums, oral presentations and posters on different friends of pharmacology with most international projection.

The plenary sessions will count with the participation of the experts Manel Esteller, professor from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UB and ICREA researcher at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), Rafael Maldonado (Pompeu Fabra University), Paul Insel (University of California, United States), Antonio Ferrer-Montiel (Miguel Hernández University), Mabel Loza (University of Santiago de Compostela), and Angneta Nordberg (Karolinska Institute, Sweden). The symposium program will also count with the participation from UB experts: Sílvia Sánchez and Salvador Cañigueral; Leonardo Pardo and Magí Farré (UAB), Olga Valverde (UPF), and Josep Maria Piultas (IDIBELL), among others.
