The UB received the award for the Tutoresport programme, which promotes compatibility between studies and high-level sport, and the student received an honourable mention for her academic and sporting career.

The University of Barcelona and the student Carlota Badorrey have been distinguished in the Carrera Dual Awards for Merit 2024, awards that the Supreme Council for Sports (CSD) granted during the PROAD 2025 Gala, which took place on 9 October in Madrid. The event, presided over by the President of the Sports Council, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, and with the participation of the Minister for Education, Vocational Training and Sport, Pilar Alegría, recognized students who are top-level athletes and institutions that promote compatibility between academic excellence and activity.

The UB was awarded for its commitment to promoting dual careers through the Tutoresport UB programme, a pioneering initiative that has been supporting students who combine university studies with federated sport for over 25 years. This programme has benefited more than 3,000 student athletes throughout its history. The vice-rector for Students and University Life, Marta Ferrer, received the award on behalf of the UB.

Carlota Badorrey, a student of Medicine at the UB’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, combines her studies with an outstanding sporting career in inline hockey, a sport in which she has been world and European champion in the junior category with the Spanish national team. This achievement, together with her academic performance, has earned her a quality award in the school category. The award highlights not only her personal commitment, but also the strength of the support she receives through the Tutoresport UB programme, which allows her to effectively combine the demands of elite sport with academic excellence.

During the event, Minister Pilar Alegría stressed the importance of “training and sport going hand in hand” throughout the career of young athletes and highlighted the High Level Athlete Care Programme (PROAD), promoted by the CSD, as a tool that provides comprehensive and personalized support to help in the transition to the academic and professional life. The event also commemorated 15 years of the PROAD programme, which has supported more than 10,000 athletes from all disciplines and has contributed to the integration of more than 1,600 of these athletes into the labour market.
