The main objective of the competition is to promote Saint Georgeʼs Day personal impressions in any of its three main fields: literary, festive and aesthetic. The award-winning photograph, On habiten les paraules neix la llegenda, received 158 votes (18.63 % of total votes cast). Besides the 1,000 euros prize, award-winning photograph illustrates the poster that the University has created to celebrate Saint Georgeʼs Day.
Two second prizes, valued at 500 euros, were given to Meritxell Talavera Fusté, student of Criminology at the Faculty of Law, for her photograph Imaginant nous mons entre pàgines (115 votes), and Maria Solaguren-Beascoa Negre, student at the Faculty of Biology for her photograph Sant Jordi a la sang (100 votes).
The university community selected award-winning photographs among eleven shortlisted proposals which were previously chosen by the jury, composed by experts on image and communication. Students of bachelorʼs degrees, masterʼs degrees and PhD programmes, members of the teaching and research staff, and members of the administrative and service staff cast their vote online. A total of 848 votes were cast. Participants were able to submit two original photographs.
Soon, the Virtual Museum of the UB will host an exhibition of all the photographs submitted this year and in previous editions of the contest. The exhibition will also include photographs submitted in future editions. Currently, award-winning and shortlisted photographs are available at the website of the competition.
