Alma Mater is an initiative of the University of Barcelona and the start-up company Omashu, which was born in StartUB!. The aim of Alma Mater is to bring e-sports closer to amateur players, while promoting values such as equality and sustainability.

With this event, the UB consolidates its position at the forefront of technology, with the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the world of e-sports. During the games, detailed analysis of the players’ performance metrics will be carried out. This will serve, for example, to have real-time information to optimize strategies during the games. The UB and Omashu’s clear commitment to innovation

The project also includes tools for the assessment and improvement of players’ psychological well-being, using biometric data to monitor stress and fatigue levels in real time. The aim of the UB and Omashu is to guarantee and improve the health and well-being of the players. Therefore, the approach is to deepen the knowledge of the optimal combinations of rest and strategies, to improve the performance in the game and prevent the exhaustion of the participants.

Alma Mater is built based on a manual of good practices that the participants will have to take on board and which also involves the formation of mixed teams. We want to take the fight for equality in the world of video games further. We are also committed to economic sustainability and responsible innovation, and we implement cost-efficient management technologies and optimized processes that reduce environmental impact while maintaining quality standards in all services.

All of this in a sector that is booming and that undoubtedly represents a great opportunity for the Catalan language. Alma Mater is not only the first university online gaming competition, it is also a springboard for the Catalan language in an area where it has a minimal presence.

The tournament will be broadcast live on social networks, day after day. It will be a great battle, in which the different faculties will face the Grieta del Invocador until the final, which will take place in the SAGA Gaming Hall of Plataforma per la Llengua, on 29 November 2024.
