The Observatory on Bioethics and Law of the University of Barcelona (OBD) celebrates its 13th anniversary with a commemorative seminar. This will take place on Thursday 6 February, and researchers will review the impact the OBD has had on issues such as assisted reproduction and gestation by genetic substitution, euthanasia, neuroethics and intensive care medicine. It will also include a conference by Juana María Gil, professor at the University of Granada, on bioethics, law and gender, as well as a round table on scientific publications and artificial intelligence.
Since 2000, the OBD’s research has been based on the consolidated Bioethics, Law and Society research group. In the field of teaching, the Observatory organizes the master’s degree in Bioethics and Law, which has already been taken by more than 600 students. In terms of publications, the most emblematic is the Journal of Bioethics and Law, which is available in open access and in digital format. The Bioethics Collection includes monographs and collective works, as well as the documents and declarations of the OBD Opinion Group (open access) and translated into different languages. In 2007, the UNESCO Chair on Bioethics was created, one of nine in the world in this speciality and the only one in Spain. Finally, it should be noted that the documents and reports produced by the OBD have subsequently been reflected in Spanish legislation.

The commemorative session is part of the international seminars of the UNESCO Chair on Bioethics at the UB. For more information and to register for the event, check the following link.
