On 13 and 14 December 2022, the conference “Looking back and looking forward: the European Universitiesʼ multi-level effect” will take place in Barcelona. It will reflect on the CHARM-EUʼs advances and will assess the impact of the European university alliances.
Context and objectives
Since the kick-off of the European Universities initiative in 2019, the CHARM-EU university alliance has overcome several challenges and has successfully progressed in several fields. Some of its most outstanding achievements are the development of its core values, educational principles, and an innovative model of teaching and learning that resulted in the first joint European masterʼs degree (Global Challenges for Sustainability), as well as the TORCH project, with which the alliance links its research and innovation dimension.
This Decemberʼs CHARM-EU conference will reflect on the achievements and global advances of the alliance and those of the European Universities initiative. Also, it will map out the future towards a strong European Higher Education Area based in a collaborative and inclusive long-term strategy. The conference will contribute to the transformation of the European higher education by identifying and highlighting the multiple effects of the cooperation between alliances. It will gather representatives of the European university alliances, students, staff and academics, policymakers and external stakeholders, to debate on the options and actions to be carried out during the new phase of the European Universities initiative.
The agenda of the conference
Apart from commenting on the achievements and lessons learnt in CHARM-EU, these sessions will also focus on the construction of the European higher education area or the shaping of the future of higher education through the best practices identified in the European universities. They will also focus on their contribution to the digital and green transitions through the promotion of the EU Digital Education Action Plan and the New European Bauhaus initiative.
The thematic sessions will offer the opportunity to reflect on the approaches of the European university education (using CHARM-EU as the case study) and the gorvernance and management structures of the European university alliances. At the same time, they will offerthe possibility to consider the creation of an inter-institutional, intercultural, transdisciplinary and inclusive campus with mobility as a core element, the possibilities of internal transformation as well as the future of the research and innovation dimension of European university alliances.
Some of the panel sessions will be available in a hybrid format. Registration to the CHARM-EU Conference is freeof charge and is available here. More information in this link.
