The lecturer of the Faculty of Economics and Business Àngels Pelegrín, UB coordinator for relations with eastern Asia, has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun with Gold Rays and Neck Ribbon, given by the Japanese Government. This award, given in a ceremony in the Consulate-General of Japan in Barcelona, is a recognition of her work in promoting the academic exchange and understandings between Japan and Spain.

Àngels Pelegrín did her doctoral thesis on Japan’s foreign direct investment in Spain, and since then, she has made many stays in Japanese universities to do research on several aspects of the Japanese economy and its relationship with the Spanish one. She has been a lecturer at the University of Barcelona for more than twenty years and, among other positions, she has been the director of the Confucius Institute of Barcelona.

The Order of the Rising Sun was created by Emperor Meiji in 1875 to honor the merits in general, both in the civil and military fields. At the moment, it holds the second place within the honorary Japanese system, following the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum.
