Litter invades the mangroves of tropical countries

Large amounts of litter, mainly consisting of plastics, become trapped in these unique and biodiverse — but also highly vulnerable — ecosystems, which are structured around plant species adapted to growing in saline soils that are permanently or temporarily flooded. This is a major environmental problem.
