Open University

The UB, committed to open science.

The open science movement promotes science that is more collaborative, transparent and accessible to all. The European Commission has identified eight pillars of action that affect publications, data, integrity, training and evaluation, among other aspects.

The University of Barcelona, as a member of LERU, is working on developing the roadmap of recommendations published by the organization, which has had an open access policy since 2011.

Improving the visibility of research

The institutional repository makes it possible to access the full text of scientific or academic articles online, free of charge and immediately. It includes a complete compilation of doctoral theses as well as papers and other scientific and academic publications. The institutional repository allows UB researchers to disseminate scientific publications in accordance with institutional policies and the requirements of the leading national and international funding agencies.

The UB is also committed to promoting publication in open-access journals by offering publication grants as well as a portal for its own scientific journals that adhere to these principles. The UB also cooperates with the repositories managed by the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya, such as the Research Repository of Catalonia, Recercat and the Revistes Catalanes amb Accés Obert.

Sharing research data
The University of Barcelona provides researchers with services and infrastructures so that the data they work with must be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable, in keeping with FAIR principles.
